King Dilla

It's going to be all about Dilla today, tomorrow and next week.

He is great. His music is still alive and will continue to be a part of our lives forever. What's so great about him is that I never get sick of his beats. I have been listening to his music for 13 years now, and to me he was the best producer in the history of hip hop.

James Yancey died on February 10th, 2006. He had suffered for over three years with an incurable blood disease, and had also been diagnosed with lupus.

To me it's sad that he didn't get the attention that he deserved before he died. He has been in the hip hop industry since 1993 working with big names like Common, Busta Rhymes and A Tribe Called Quest. He is basically the one that put Detroit on the map!

His discography is very long, so please take a look at it here.

In the early 2000s Dilla's career as a solo artist began to improve. His solo album "Welcome 2 Detroit" (BBE Records) was followed by a collaborative album with Madlib (Jaylib; Champion Sound). Just as his music was starting to become popular, Dilla died.

Dilla's music experienced a rebirth as he gained many times more listeners than he had during his life, partly due to media exposure. There is so many more things to say about him, but i'm going to stop here and keep the focus on his music. I love you Jay Dee!

Common

Common is one of my favourite rappers, although I think his last two albums were pretty weak. I just wish he stopped working with Kanye West. "Like Water For Chocolate" is an album that i've been listening to for almost 10 years now and I still love it! I also like "Resurrection" (1994) and "One Day It'll All Make Sense" (1999).
