From Austria to Germany

Jazzanova is a German Berlin-based DJ/producer collective consisting of Alexander Barck, Claas Brieler, Jürgen von Knoblauch, Roskow Kretschmann, Stefan Leisering, and Axel Reinemer. Formed in 1995, the group is one of the foremost proponents of the nu-jazz, chillout and jazz house styles of music associated with record labels such as Compost Records and Sonar Kollektiv.

My very first post on my blog was Leon Ware: "I Want You". I can't tell you enough how much I love that song! This song from the album "Of All the Things" feat. Dwele & Leon Ware, is also very nice!

From the album: "In Between" (2002).

Enjoy!

Austrian downbeat masters

Peter Kruder and Richard Dorfmeister are an Austrian duo most known for their downtempo-dub remixes of pop, hip-hop, and drum and bass songs.

Kruder and Dorfmeister own their own recording studio, G-Stone Records, which releases some of its own albums, as well as others by Peace Orchestra, dub club, and Sugar B.

My favourite albums:
"The K&D sessions" K7/1998. (Wow I just realized that's a very long time ago, still love the album tho!)
"G-stone artists . The G-Stone Book" 2000. (Not only a good album, the book has also cool illustrations)
DJ-Kicks: Kruder & Dorfmeister. K7/1996.

Who cares

if the video is homemade as long as the track is awesome!

"Oasis" is the first collaboration album by New York rappers O.C. and A.G. (Two of my favourite rappers may I add). The album was released November 2009. Go get it now! An album very much worth your time.

Madvillain

MF DOOM and Madlib are Madvillain. The two met in 2002 and soon began working on Madvillainy which would be finished over the next year and released in March 2004.

The music on Madvillainy went against the grain of all popular conventions in contemporary hip-hop: short songs, dirty sound, no choruses, and with lyrical themes which were not always clear to everyone on first listen.

The album received the highest critical praise of a hip-hop album released in 2004, and years later has continued to generate interest and controversy. (Stones Throw Records).

Ruff Draft EP

Ruff Draft was originally released in February 2003 as an EP, by his then newly founded label, Mummy Records, and distributed by Groove Attack (German label). In 2007, Ruff Draft was remastered and re-released as the third official solo album by Stones Throw Records. The re-release sold 8,049 copies in its first week, J Dilla's largest first-week sales as a solo artist.

The original vinyl release of Ruff Draft is now out of print. Although the album is one of Jay Dee's lesser known works, it includes some of his most abstract and experimental work, all self-produced, and recorded in under a week!

Such a cute video!

The Shining

This album is Dilla's second solo album. "The Shining" was incom- plete at the time of J Dilla's passing and was posthumously completed by Karriem Riggins (his friend and fellow Detroit hip hop producer). Karriem Riggins was entrusted by Dilla's mother for the completion and handling of the record.

"The Shining serves as showcase of J Dilla’s talents which features him not only as a
producer, but also as a rapper, singer and musician. Featured guests on this album include Busta Rhymes, Common, Pharoahe Monch, D’Angelo, Madlib, Black Thought, Medaphor aka MED, and Guilty Simpson." (BBE music).

Welcome To Detroit

"Whether you know it not, Jay Dees been rocking you for years, producing chart topping hits for rap luminaries Jay-Z, Common, De La Soul and Busta Rhymes, Tribe and Erykah Badu, as well as Janet Jackson and The Brand New Heavies, this is the roll call of how Jay Dee blasted off (Westwood).

Unless youve been buried deep in a hip hop proof bunker for the past few years chances are youve shaken your caboose to a few Jay Dee dope jams …. The latest super producer". (Id magazine 2001).

King Dilla

It's going to be all about Dilla today, tomorrow and next week.

He is great. His music is still alive and will continue to be a part of our lives forever. What's so great about him is that I never get sick of his beats. I have been listening to his music for 13 years now, and to me he was the best producer in the history of hip hop.

James Yancey died on February 10th, 2006. He had suffered for over three years with an incurable blood disease, and had also been diagnosed with lupus.

To me it's sad that he didn't get the attention that he deserved before he died. He has been in the hip hop industry since 1993 working with big names like Common, Busta Rhymes and A Tribe Called Quest. He is basically the one that put Detroit on the map!

His discography is very long, so please take a look at it here.

In the early 2000s Dilla's career as a solo artist began to improve. His solo album "Welcome 2 Detroit" (BBE Records) was followed by a collaborative album with Madlib (Jaylib; Champion Sound). Just as his music was starting to become popular, Dilla died.

Dilla's music experienced a rebirth as he gained many times more listeners than he had during his life, partly due to media exposure. There is so many more things to say about him, but i'm going to stop here and keep the focus on his music. I love you Jay Dee!

Common is one of my favourite rappers, although I think his last two albums were pretty weak. I just wish he stopped working with Kanye West. "Like Water For Chocolate" is an album that i've been listening to for almost 10 years now and I still love it! I also like "Resurrection" (1994) and "One Day It'll All Make Sense" (1999).
